Somali Youth League of San Diego, will hosting a 5K "Walk-4-Somalia" on Saturday, 1/14. On this day, hundreds of walkers from the greater San Diego Community will walk in solidarity with the victims of famine. Famines are preventable and instead of talking the talk, we are going to walk the walk.
In an effort to revive the Horn, SYLSD, will be hosting a 5K “Walk-4-Somalia” on Saturday 1/14/2011. On this day, hundreds of walkers will walk in solidary with the thousands of famine victims who walk for months in search of food and water. This event will create awareness and funds to fight the famine. At end of the walk, we will host a closing ceremony and introduce some of the compelling stories of the “Faces of the Famine”. The walk has been approved by the City of San Diego and Council Woman Marti Emerald has declared 1/14/2011 Somali Youth League day in her proclamation. The Budget for our walk is estimated to be exactly $5,000. This includes T-shirts = $3,400, tents and banners=$410.Park fees = $290. Stage/equip=$1,000.
