The Idea

YP for CARE will rally New York’s young professionals to attend a night of simultaneous events in bars along NYC's 13th street. We call it "Occupy 13th Street"-a collective stance against hunger, violence and inaction to support the 13 million people affected by the Horn of Africa crisis.

The Specifics

Bar events will be set up across 13th Street and have drink specials for people who donate to FWD by text during the event. Each bar will be branded with a FWD fact and feature local bands or speakers. We’ll invest funds in posters, banners, and bar cards with FWD facts and calls for action.
To shed light on a major aspect of the crisis, widespread hunger, Occupy 13th Street will park a food truck at our main bar and offer free food to passersby. Funds will go towards sponsoring the food truck for 2 hours and high-impact signage asking people to support hungry refugees by using the text-to-donate code.
We’ll also donate $1 to CARE’s relief efforts for each person who checks in on Foursquare, up to $200.
