The Idea

Studying Africa and its cultures is part of the North Carolina middle school curriculum. I propose to provide lesson plans to Social Studies teachers that encourage students to create web content that highlights the plight in the Horn of Africa and the FWD mission.

The Specifics

The grant money received will be used to purchase equipment used for creating web content. It will also be used to provide materials for teachers county-wide to implement their own lessons.

This idea will begin in one school and spread to the county, and the State.
1-short lesson on FWD
2-in groups, students will discuss an aspect that they would like to highlight in a short video clip.
3- research/ storyboard
4-create a short PSA.
5-videos will then be posted online.
6- Students share videos using social media
(Lesson Plan will be included on video site)
7- repeat county-wide (I will present to teachers county-wide)
8- repeat throughout NC (web propagation, direct mailings)
